The Grove Blended & At Home Learning
The Grove Blended & Home Learning Program:
- supports families who choose a home-learning approach by combining at-home instruction with in-person learning opportunities.
- is facilitated by a BC certified teacher and align with the BC Curriculum.
- is a close collaboration between teachers, students, and Home Facilitators through regular communication to develop personalized learning plans that reflect each student’s strengths, interests, and curriculum goals.
- offers opportunities to attend in-person classes during the week.
- is designed to be delivered by a Home Facilitator, who is most often a parent, guardian, or other family member who provides full-time guidance and instructions.
- supports student learning through 3rd party service providers. More details can be found in the Student Learning Funds link below.
- is available to school-aged students who are residents of the Cowichan Valley as part of the Cowichan Valley School District (SD79).
The Grove Nature Collective
The Grove Nature Collective:
- invites inquisitive learners in grades K to 9 to engage with the wonders of nature while pursuing their interests.
- unfolds across 1 to 2 full days a week, immersing students in a 400-acre outdoor classroom at Providence Farm.
- grounds academics in place-based, experiential learning, fueled by imaginative play
- encourages students to forge meaningful connections with the world around them.
- approaches learning through student-centred values grounded in attachment theory, fostering genuine connections among teachers, parents, mentors, and children.
- cultivates a nurturing environment where children’s voices are heard, and they actively care for community and the environment.

Grade 10 - 12 Online Learning
- Discover The Grove’s dedicated online learning solution tailored for residents of Cowichan Valley in grades 10 to 12. Our courses are completed online, allowing students to set their own pace and schedule while meeting graduation requirements throughout the school year. Choose from two registration pathways that cater to your preferences.
- Our teachers offer both online and in-person support during the school day at our Learning Hub.
- Full-Time Online Students: Students enroll full-time at The Grove, taking all courses online, leading to graduation directly with us. Full-time students collaborate with a Grove academic advisor to establish personalized goals, enabling them to balance their academic course load and integrate electives into their schedule.
- Single Online Courses: Students stay enrolled at their current home school (CHSS, CVOLC, FKSS, LCS, QSS, or Independent) while supplementing their education with one or two Grove online courses. Connect with your home school counsellor to discuss this option.
- There are no tuition fees for school-aged students who are Cowichan Valley, BC residents.
Cowichan Valley Performing Arts Academy
The Cowichan Valley Performing Arts Academy (CVPAA) embodies the Whole Performer Approach, emphasizing leadership, personal and social responsibility, technical training, and integrated academics, fostering holistic development aligned with the curriculum. This full-time, year-long program is designed for enthusiastic students in grades 7-12 interested in experiential learning, dance, music, and theatre. We offer small, multi-grade classes in which students can blend their passion for the arts with rigorous academic pursuits. While we have three focuses within the academy to choose from, most students engage in a combination of all three to develop their interdisciplinary skills as performers.
Music: In this focus, students have the option to combine private lessons with group lessons to best suit their personal growth. Students build skills in multiple classes, such as choir, voice, rock band, and song writing, and create a final piece of music to perform solo or in small groups. Students will have the option to choose from instrument-focused lessons or vocal training. Musicians learn how to write, record, and edit their music.
Dance: This is a great program for serious dancers. Classes will include a combination of dance genres (jazz, hip hop, contemporary, ballet, acro) along with dance history, anatomy, and injury prevention. All CVPAA students engage in Physical and Health Education as well as Active Living through dance, health, and wellness courses.
Musical Theatre: In this focus, students integrate the arts—acting, singing, dancing, ands stage craft—showcasing their learning through the production of a musical. Students develop technical skills in voice, movement, and character interpretation, while building perseverance, resilience, and reflection as artists. Exploring the big idea that musical theatre is informed by history, culture, and community, students also learn technical crew work, including set design, costume design, lighting, budgeting, and backstage management.
